Four local nonprofit groups are getting some high-profile display space in downtown Kalispell for the holiday season, thanks to the owners of the former Anderson’s Style Shop building at 222 Main St.

The Abbie Shelter and Violence Free Crisis Line, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flathead County, The Nurturing Center and Wounded Warriors were invited by La Lark LLC to use the window space in the vacant building to promote their causes.

Laura Khor, the daughter of Karlene Osorio-Khor, member-manager of La Lark, said she suggested the idea as a way to bring attention to some of the charitable organizations her family supports.

“It’s important that with all the rush of the holiday season to remember the reason for the season, which is to help and support our neighbors and community,” Khor said.

Each of the four nonprofits will host raffles, food and refreshments during Kalispell’s Art Walk from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, as they highlight their missions in the community.

Built in 1949, the Art Deco building has a long history in downtown Kalispell.

The terrazzo facade, copper appointments and large display windows are highlights of the building designed by architect Fred Brinkman.

Also on display in the building’s ample windows are a sculpted angel made years ago by longtime community leaders Lois Himsl and Rosalie Heinecke, both of whom are now deceased. A vintage life-sized Santa Claus fills the remaining window.
