COEUR d'ALENE - North Idaho College prepared for today's 24-team Bigfoot Battle tournament by winning a pair of duals against Highline Community College of Des Moines, Wash., and Doane College of Crete, Neb., in the Cardinal Duals at Christianson Gym on Saturday.

NIC (3-1) beat Highline 41-4 and Doane 52-3.

"It was good to get them here for a couple of duals before the tournament," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "That tournament tomorrow should be really tough."

Freshman Terrance McKinney of Shadle Park High in Spokane won both of his matches by pin for NIC at 141 pounds.

"Everyone wrestled well," Whitcomb said. "It was good to see those freshmen making big steps and coming on. Now, we'll get to find out where they're at in that tournament."

Doane is an NAIA program bringing back wrestling for the first time since the 1970s.

Today's tournament at the Spokane Convention Center begins at 9 a.m., with the championship finals scheduled for 5 p.m.
