Art recommended for McEuen Park entrance
COEUR d'ALENE - A unique piece of art, standing 25 feet tall and resembling three lofty dandelions, is the recommended artwork for the Third Street entrance to McEuen Park.
A Coeur d'Alene City Council subcommittee will consider the recommendation today. The General Services Committee meets today at noon in the Coeur d'Alene Public Library Community Room.
A selection committee for the Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission has recommended the city choose a sculpture entitled "Allium Spring Chorus," for the Third Street entrance. The cost is $110,000.
According to artist David Tonnesen, the inspiration of the design is the allium plant, a wild onion, relative to garlic and native to Idaho.
The artwork will include thousands of star shapes that make up the flower heads, catching and reflecting light and bending slightly in a plant-like manner. If the General Services Committee accepts the recommendation, the proposal will go to the full council for final approval. The public is welcome.
Department store robbed Saturday night
COEUR d'ALENE - J.C. Penney at 200 W. Hanley Ave. in the Silver Lake Mall was robbed just after 8:30 Saturday night.
