No one was injured in a spectacular three-vehicle pile-up at Northridge Drive and U.S. 93 in Kalispell Tuesday morning.

The crash left a minivan perched atop a passenger car.

At 10:10 a.m., the three vehicles were all approaching the intersection.

According to Kalispell police, a motorist in a pickup truck eastbound on Northridge Drive waited at the light to turn left, while another motorist in a minivan traveling westbound on Northridge Drive crossed through the intersection on a green light.

A southbound motorist on U.S. 93, carrying three other passengers including two children in car seats, did not see the red light and entered the intersection.

All of the adults involved told police they were not injured, and the two children were checked out in an ambulance, and an officer said they appeared to be OK.

The officer also guessed that the angle of the midmorning sun may have temporarily blinded the driver of the car, making the driver unable to see the red light.

An ironic twist was added to the accident by a bumper sticker on the back of the minivan, which read: “The closer you get, the slower I go.”

The crash shut down a single southbound lane on the highway, and traffic was able to continue flowing through the intersection.
