A Whitefish woman has been officially charged with felony assault with a weapon after her husband was stabbed on Monday.
AnnMari Newton, 39, made her initial appearance in court Wednesday, where her bond was set at $75,000. She is currently incarcerated in the Flathead County Detention Center.
A court document filed Wednesday in Flathead District Court alleges AnnMari was holding a knife when she and her husband, 37-year-old Chad Newton, got into an argument in the kitchen of their 1115 O’Brien Ave. home in Whitefish.
AnnMari later allegedly told police that she then “thrust the knife toward Chad and stabbed him,” the document states.
She then called 911. When officers arrived, they found her still on the phone with a dispatcher. She directed them to the kitchen, where they found Chad Newton on the floor, unresponsive and bleeding from the left side of his chest.
He underwent emergency surgery at Kalispell Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in critical but stable condition Tuesday. The couple’s two children were placed in the care of a family friend at the direction of Child Protective Services.
AnnMari Newton now faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000 if she is convicted.
