COEUR d'ALENE - Open enrollment for the Idaho Health Insurance Exchange starts today, but individuals have until Jan. 1, 2014, to get insurance.

If you don't get it by Jan. 1, you will be fined $95 or 1 percent of your annual salary, whichever is larger. For an individual making $25,000 a year the fine could be $250.

For individuals who have access to employer-provided health insurance, they will not qualify for a subsidized plan on the Idaho Health Insurance Exchange.

Uninsured individuals will likely qualify for a subsidized health insurance plan, but they must go through the Idaho Exchange to receive it.

A family of four making $32,500 a year could qualify for an estimated $950 a month to offset the cost of premiums. A family of four making $90,000 a year could qualify for $350 a month for premium assistance.

To see if you qualify for assistance visit the exchange website at www.yourhealthidaho.org. You can also call the Exchange help line at 1-855-944-3246.

There is also help locally for more information. Heritage Health, formerly called the Dirne Clinic, has trained help available for the uninsured.

Also free seminars on Idaho's version of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, will be held at the Lake City Center, 1916 N. Lakewood, Coeur d'Alene, on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. and on Fridays at 8 a.m. throughout October. Members of the Idaho Association of Health Underwriters will present information and be available for questions.

A YouTube video called "The Youtoons Get Ready for Obamacare" is also available.
