SPIRIT LAKE - Coeur d'Alene Charter captain Katie Baxter came as close as you can to scoring a goal without time running out.

Baxter scored just before the final whistle to give the Panthers a 4-4 tie at Timberlake in an Intermountain League thriller. The junior forward dribbled from midfield, beat three different Timberlake defenders, shot from the 20-yard line.

"Katie literally scored with a second left," Charter coach David Baxter said. "That was about as emotional a roller coaster as you can get for both teams. It was a dream finish for us. It was exciting to see the girls come back, they never quit. They're hard workers, they kept fighting back and we're fortunate to get the tie in the end. Timberlake was brilliant."

The Panthers (8-2-3, 7-0-1 IML) clinched a tie for the league title, and are one win away from winning the league outright. They host Bonners Ferry on Saturday at United Community Methodist Field and finish league play with a home game Oct. 10 against Priest River.

The Tigers (2-7-1, 2-5-1), who led 3-1 at halftime, scored with nearly 20 seconds left, on a goal by freshman forward Alisson Kirby, who made her season debut last week. Kirby matched Baxter, as both picked up a hat trick. Baxter has three hat tricks on the season.

"It was a great game for a confidence-builder going into districts," Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. "It (allowing Baxter's goal) was bittersweet, we played a great game. It was ugly as a coach to watch. Charter has so many different weapons. It was like rapid fire. They hung with us. You know when you're in that 79th minute, that attack can come from anywhere, and we tried to stop it. You knew it was coming, it was hard to watch. It was a great shot."

The 3A District 1 tournament begins on Oct. 15 at Lakeland.

Timberlake plays at Lakeland on Saturday.

COEUR d'ALENE - The Vikings allowed two breakaway goals on the counterattack in the 5A Inland Empire League loss to the Bengals.

"We dominated play," Coeur d'Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. "We controlled the ball 70 percent of the time. We had a ton of opportunities and that's the next step. We have to work on finishing."

The Bengals (4-7-1, 2-3-0 5A IEL) got on the scoreboard in the 60th minute, on a cleared ball. Lewiston scored again in the 70th minute.

"Both goals were nearly identical," Vredenburg said.

COEUR d'ALENE - Camryn Wendlandt scored an unassisted goal in the 17th minute as the Timberwolves beat the Bears in a nonleague match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

"I thought we had the majority of the run of play," Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. "We put two away and should have put a couple more away. Moscow always plays tough and hard and plays a different type of game, but we got a result, so we're happy."

Havana Johnson scored on an assist from Alissa Jolliff in the 64th minute for Lake City (6-4-2), which travels to Coeur d'Alene on Saturday at 2 p.m.

POST FALLS - Erica Simpson had four goals and assisted on the other two, leading the Trojans past the visiting Hawks in a nonleague match.

"The field was hit by the weather and made it a sloppy mess," Post Falls coach Briggs Anderson said. "We came out with a possession style game. Erica had a good game with four goals and two assists and when she does that, we're tough to defend."

Post Falls (7-2-1) hosts Lewiston in a 5A Inland Empire League match on Thursday.

Michelle Peterson and Harley Hendry had goals for Lakeland (2-10), which hosts Sandpoint in a 4A Inland Empire League match on Thursday at Rotary Field.

LEWISTON - Devin Kohles scored 16 seconds into the match and added another goal with six minutes remaining to lift the Coeur d'Alene Vikings past the Bengals in a 5A Inland Empire League match at Walker Field.

"He scored that goal almost right off the kickoff," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Lake said. "Then, we were flat for almost an hour. It was one of those bang-bang plays right off the bat."

Coeur d'Alene (6-1-3, 2-1-1 5A IEL) had three starters out due to injury - goalkeeper Garrett Boyce, Braden Ridgewell and Chase Sanchez. Lewiston is 4-8, 0-5.

"We came down and got the win today," Lake said. "Lewiston fought hard and they're a good team. It was a good, quality result considering the injuries."

First half - 1, Cd'A, Devin Kohles (Gunnar Skindlov), 1:00. Second half - 2, Cd'A, Kohles (Lane Thompson), 74:00.

Shots on goal - Cd'A 9, Lew 3.

MOSCOW - Jack Barrett scored in the seventh minute to get the visiting Timberwolves going en route to a blanking of the Bears at Moscow Junior High.

Tanner Horton earned the shutout for Lake City (7-1-2). Timberwolf coach Chad Beadell said rain in the first half made for a soggy field, and said the dirt area in front of one of the goals "looked like the Kentucky Derby after they've had three days of rain."

"I will say it wasn't our cleanest effort, but a win's a win," Beadell said. "Getting that early goal helped, then we really put it to them, but their goalie (Nick Anderton) did a really good job."

Lake City plays host to Coeur d'Alene on Saturday at noon.

First half - 1, LC, Jack Barrett (Dylan Flolo), 6:40. Second half - 2, LC, Kenny Randall (Cade Murphree), 59:30. 3, LC, Alec Maldonado (Barrett), 72:00.

RATHDRUM - Timmy Mueller connected on two more goals - taking his career total to 95 - to lead the Trojans past the Hawks in a nonleague match at Rotary Field.

"It was a really good match," Lakeland coach Andrew Craig said. "I thought the boys played well and played a solid game getting ready for Sandpoint on Thursday night. It just one of those things where they've got a good forward (Mueller) and finding a way to shut him down is tough to do."

Roberto Esquivel assisted on both goals for Post Falls (6-3-1), which travels to Lewiston on Thursday for a 5A Inland Empire League match.

Austin Garitone scored on an assist from Kyle Deeter for Lakeland (3-10-1), which travels to Sandpoint on Thursday at 7 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
