COEUR d'ALENE - Freshman Adam Talley, a graduate of East Valley High in Spokane, scored on an assist from Rodger Bucknor in the 86th minute to lead the North Idaho Cardinals past the visiting Columbia Basin Hawks of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges 1-0 on Wednesday in a men's soccer match.

"We just needed that moment for someone to break out and do something spectacular," NIC coach Ken Thompson said. "It was a great moment of individual play for Rodger, because he beat four players and cut across the goal and Adam was there to put it away."

Tanner Jones had three saves for NIC (7-4-2), which hosts the Community Colleges of Spokane on Saturday at 3 p.m.

"Tanner prevented a lot of opportunities today," Thompson said. "He's playing confident right now and was cutting some chances off today. He's playing very confident and is really good right now. We've scored a lot of goals late. In those tight games, we need to leave the scorers in the game and they came through late and Adam had some good timing at the net. The guys were tough today."

First half - none. Second half - 1, NIC, Adam Talley (Rodger Bucknor), 86:00.

Shots on goall - CBC 5, NIC 8.

Saves - CBC, Antonio Gonzalez 5; NIC, Tanner Jones 3.
