The Coyotes celebrate Tuesday night after scoring the final point of the fifth match to defeat the Lions and remain undefeated.

The Lions hosted the Kittitas Coyotes Tuesday night, as both teams came into the contest without a blemish on their record.

For Moses Lake Christian Academy and new head coach Amanda Saenz the momentum has been building with each game, as the team becomes acclimated to their new system and new coach, and Saenz gets to know her players and their abilities.

Tuesday night's contest was nothing short of what you would expect from two undefeated teams, both clearly on their way to postseason play later in the fall. The see-saw battle saw the Lions dominate early, but Kittitas never wavered and showed their resilience late, climbing their way back from two games down to push a deciding game 5. It was in that deciding game that the tide finally turned in favor of the Yotes and they eked out a victory on the Lions home court.

"We didn't communicate well late in the game and it ended up costing us." Saenz said.

The Lions came out firing on all cylinders and won the first match 25-19, never trailing in the match. The second match proved to be more of the same as MLCA won game two by a score of 25-16. The Lions were led by senior Susan Timofeyev as she had 7 blocks and 7 kills on Tuesday. Also contributing to the Lions success was Anna Yarbro who added in 6 kills and 4 blocks, while Naomi Verhage was dynamic serving and had 6 aces on the Yotes. After a dominate first two games, Kittitas came to life, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back winning 25-11, the largest margin of victory on the night. It was clear in the third game that the Lions made a lot of little mistakes, made mental errors and had communication problems. Not to take anything away from the play of the Yotes as they stepped their game up and continued with their foot on the accelerator through the contest. They went on to win game four 20-13 to even the score at two games a piece and set up a deciding game five.

"I think that we just let down our guard just a little bit in the third game and they saw that opening and capitalized on it." Saenz said.

The deciding game five was a back and forth contest that further illustrated to everyone in attendance how evenly matched the two teams really were. The score became tied at 10-10 and from there the Lions would score and the Yotes would respond on the next play. This went on for fourteen straight points and had the entire audience applauding. Finally Kittitas bucked the trend and scored two consecutive points to go ahead 16-15 and then on the next play would display their endurance, outlasting the Lions on a long volley to score the final point and burst into excitement, winning the game 17-15 and 3-2 overall.

"On a positive note, that is how I know we can play; the girls worked all week on hitting the floor and protecting our hitters and they did a great job tonight. This game could have gone either way, but someone's got to win and our girls played really well and I'm proud of them." Saenz said.
