WORLEY, Idaho - When Jared Torgeson steps into the cage Friday night only one man will be standing in between him and his third championship belt.

Torgeson, a Ephrata native, is competing in the main event of the King of the Cage promotion at Coeur D'Alene Casino. His opponent, 41-year-old Trevor Prangley, holds the KOTC Light Heavyweight Title with a record of 31-10-1.

"To get this win would be the biggest of my career by far," Torgeson said. "To win against him would be huge for my career."

Torgeson began his amateur career after attending a friend's fight piqued his interest in the sport. His first fight came in August 2009 and when Torgeson knocked out his opponent in about a minute he figured he might have some talent in mixed martial arts.

He began fighting professionally when his manager at the time was able to book him a pro fight, but getting paid to punch, kick and wrestle people wasn't the first thing on Torgeson's mind.

"I had no thoughts about going pro until I got offered a professional fight from my manager at the time," he said.

Torgeson now holds a professional record of 13-8 and has won his last five fights, earning two championships in the process.

His fighting style is mostly kick boxing and he has improved his ground game, something that was lacking early in his career.

"The longer I'm on my feet the happier I am," Torgeson said.

Torgeson moved from Spokane to Moses Lake almost four years ago and credits his coach, Daniel Atnip, with his improved abilities inside the cage.

"Without his coaching I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am now," he said.

Doors to the event open Friday at 6 p.m. and the fights begin at 7 p.m. For more information visit www.kingofthecage.com.
