Whitefish, Polson golfers on top at state tournament

POLSON — The Whitefish boys and Polson girls both turned in strong efforts on the opening day of the Class A state golf tournament at Polson Bay Golf Course on Friday.
Whitefish, with two players in the top 10, has a 316 team total and a four-shot lead on Sidney.
Hamilton, 337, is a distant third.
Two-time defending state champion Polson has a 356 first-day total for a 10-shot edge on Northwestern A division al champion Whitefish.
Livingston is well off the pace, holding down third place with a 412 score.
Art Doorn of Whitefish and Paul Brannan of Sidney both tallied even-par 72s to share the top spot on the leaderboard.
Cooper Donahue of Whitefish carded a 74 and is tied for third.
Polson’s Alex Killian turned in a 79 and is tied for ninth.
Livingston’s Christal Tokash had the best round for girls with an 80. Nicole Clairmont of Polson and Whitefish’s Erin Tabish are tied for second with 83s.
Jaylin Kenney of Polson and Katie Fyall of Whitefish are three shots back and share fourth place.
Rounding out the top 10 are: Whitefish’s Simone Craft, 92, tied for seventh; and Polson’s Lauren Dupuis, 93, in ninth and Peyton Anderson, 94, 10th.
