Fishing for fall salmon continues to be very good in the Hanford Reach, with three-fish limits possible below Priest Rapids Dam. Anglers are trolling Super Baits, both the standard and the Plug Cut style in the deeper holes. In the faster, shallower water you will see anglers using jet divers and back trolling them with either cured eggs or plug cut herring on behind. It is also possible to back bounce eggs or herring in this same water, using 10- to 12-ounce cannon ball sinkers on a drop release. I have heard of some very large kings taken in this stretch of the Columbia, but most of the fish I have caught or have seen caught top out in the low twenties. Some of them have been very bright, too, as there are more fresh fish coming all the time. On Monday, October 16th there will be some anglers moving their operations further north to take advantage of the steelhead season that opens on that day. The main stem Columbia, Wenatchee, Methow and Okanogan rivers will all be open to steelhead fishing at that time. I imagine early hot spots will be at the mouth of the Wenatchee and the estuary and mouth of the Methow.
