Timberlake defense shuts down Moscow

SPIRIT LAKE - After jumping out to a 14-0 lead Friday in a nonleague game against visiting 4A Moscow, 3A Timberlake's defense held strong in a 14-6 nonleague win Friday night at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.
The Tigers (3-2) picked off three passes thrown by Bears quarterback Jake Clark. Two were picked off by Austin Allen and the other was picked off by Quinton Reese.
Timberlake overcame a 24-yard touchdown pass by Clark on the last play of the first half, on fourth and 20.
"The key of the game was we jumped out to an early lead," Timberlake coach Roy Albertson said. "We had a lot of momentum there in the first half."
Preston Rhodes led the Tigers' vaunted rushing attack, running for 103 yards on 15 carries. Josh Lampert ran for 84 yards on just six carries and Dan Buck rushed for 34 yards on 11 carries.
Clark went 19 for 33 for 206 yards for Moscow (3-3).
Timberlake plays at Bonners Ferry next Friday.

ST. MARIES - Jimmy Koch scored on a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to help the Spartans get past the Lumberjacks in a nonleague matchup of former Intermountain League rivals.
After throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass to Blake Lyons and running for a 5-yard score in first quarter, St. Maries quarterback Luke Feasline left the game with an apparent knee injury and could miss the rest of the season, according to St. Maries coach Craig Tefft.
"It was just another good, competitive game," Tefft said. "We knew coming into the game that we couldn't give up the big play, and their first touchdown was a result of a few missed tackles and those long touchdowns were just a killer."
Jeremy MacDonald caught touchdown passes of 66 and 54 yards in the second quarter for Priest River (3-1), which travels to Kellogg for an Intermountain League game next Friday.
St. Maries (2-3) hosts Grangeville to open Central Idaho League play next Friday. Grangeville beat Orofino 21-6 in the CIL opener.

CLARK FORK - Doug Schatz caught four touchdown passes from Charlie Zahir to lead the Knights past the Wampus Cats in a North Star League game.
Lakeside (1-4) picked up its first win on strength of Zahir and Schatz, who connected on scoring strikes of 56, 18, 61 and 53 yards to lead the offense. Brandon Gauthier scored twice for Lakeside, which travels to Kootenai next Friday.
Clark Fork (1-3) hosts Mullan on Thursday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Miranda Miller had 21 kills, and Sydney Williams added 12 kills, nine digs, three solo blocks and three aces as the Vikings beat the visitors from Kalispell, Mont., 17-25, 25-19, 25-13, 17-25, 15-12 in nonleague play.
Megan Ramseyer had 29 assists and 11 digs for Coeur d'Alene (13-5). Missy Huddleston had four aces, Ali Williams three for the Viks, who totaled 15 aces.
"Flathead is a good team, with some big hitters," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "This match was a battle. I'm proud of my girls for finding a way to win."
For Flathead, Timi Severson had 23 kills, Jessica Simmons 44 assists, Emma Andrews 14 digs.
Coeur d'Alene plays at the Linda Sheridan Volleyball Classic (formerly the Crossover Classic) today in Spokane.

SPOKANE - Haile Watson and Madi Farrell had five kills each as the Timberwolves beat the Pirates 25-26, 25-15 in their first match of the Linda Sheridan Volleyball Classic.
Natalie Taylor had four kills and two aces for Lake City (14-3). CC Cates had 16 assists, Farrell four blocks.

SPOKANE VALLEY - Rayla Andrews had nine aces, Sydney Lawson nine kills for the visiting Royals, who overcame a 22-10 deficit in the second game for the 25-18, 28-26, 21-25, 25-20 victory in Mountain Christian League play.
Breanna Clemans had 10 assists, Liz Bookamer nine digs for North Idaho Christian (9-2, 6-2 MCL), which plays the Kootenai Thunder on Tuesday in Cocolalla.
