MOSES LAKE - The up and down struggles continued for the Big Bend Community College Vikings as the team lost to Treasure Valley Community College in four games (25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 20-15) Saturday at home.
The loss drops the Vikings' record to 3-3 in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges East region and to 8-13 overall. Big Bend now holds a narrow half game lead over the Chukars for the fourth and final playoff sport in the region.
"It kind of just seemed like everybody had their off day today," head coach Allison Baker said. "Not an excuse for how we played, but the most frustrating thing is just there didn't seem to be all that fire or all that effort that we should have."
The Vikings started strong winning the first game 25-21, but fell flat losing the next three games, and ultimately the match, to the Chukars,
"Wish we could've have won this game because it kind of would've helped us in our standings," Baker said. "Every game has to be important, every game has to be... we have to win the games that we need to win kind of thing."
Treasure Valley was able to avenge a loss to the Vikings earlier this season with sound defense while staying aggresive on offense.
Freshman Madison Lewis led the Chukar attack with nine kills while fellow freshman Destry Osburn added seven of her own.
"They're a completely different team than the first time we played them," Baker said. "They're a good team, but I think we were playing scared instead of aggressive and confident."
Big Bend's sophomore tandem of outside hitter Katie Reeder and setter McKall Miller recorded double-doubles for the Vikings. Reeder led all players with 12 kills while notching 11 digs. Miller led all players with 26 assists and 18 digs.
The Vikings hope to bounce back Wednesday against second place Spokane Community College. The match is at home and starts at 6 p.m.
