Two young Kalispell women — one a student at Glacier High School and the other a Glacier alumna — won top honors at state scholarship pageants on Sunday in Missoula.

Kadie Latimer was crowned Miss Montana USA while Madyson Rigg won the Miss Montana Teen USA title.

Latimer was crowned by the outgoing Miss Montana USA, Kacie West (also from Kalispell) and first runner-up in the Miss Montana Teen pageant was Alexa Cote, a senior at Glacier High School.

“It’s very rare for us to have two winners from the same area,” pageant co-executive producer Maureen Francisco said. “Then we also have the outgoing Miss Montana USA, Kacie West, from Kalispell, plus Alexa Cote as first runner-up in the Miss Montana Teen pageant. We were all asking, ‘What’s going on in Kalispell?’” 

Latimer, 23, will represent Montana in the Miss USA pageant next summer in Miami. She was the reigning Miss Kalispell USA as she entered the state pageant.

A 2009 Glacier High School graduate, Latimer is attending Flathead Valley Community College and is studying to be a medical assistant. She previously was employed at Whitefish Plastic Surgery as a medical aesthetician. Latimer also is a part-time fashion model.

During high school, Latimer participated in volleyball, basketball and track. She credited her father, who was head coach of the girls basketball program at Flathead when she was attending Glacier, for getting her interested in basketball.

Among the issues she works to raise awareness for is Save a Sister, a local advocacy program promoting breast cancer awareness.

Latimer is the daughter of Dennis and Laurie Latimer.

Rigg, 17, is a senior at Glacier High School. She will compete in the Miss Teen USA pageant next summer at a location yet to be announced. She’s active with Business Professionals of America and Distributive Education Clubs of America, of which she’s the state membership director. 

Rigg also participates in the speech and debate program at Glacier.

Following graduation, she plans to work for a year with Rocky Mountain Entertainment Agency as a model; then she plans to pursue a business degree with an emphasis on marketing.

As the reigning Miss Glacier Teen USA, Rigg also was involved in the local Save a Sister breast cancer awareness program.

Rigg is the daughter of Ann Rigg and Robert Rigg.

Cote, 17, recently was selected as one of six Montana students to perform in the National Association for Music Education All-National Honor Mixed Choir. 

Cote sings with Glacier’s concert choir and select Glacier Echoes choir. She plans to pursue music in some capacity following graduation. Cote is secretary of Glacier’s National Honor Society chapter, serves on the student council and is on track to be a merit scholar by completing six advanced-placement courses.

She is the daughter of Jeff and Kjersti Cote of Kalispell.

Another Glacier High student from Kalispell won pageant honors earlier this year. 

Sierra Crandell was named Distinguished Young Woman of Montana following competition in Cut Bank in early August.

In addition to winning a $2,000 scholarship, Crandell was named the overall fitness winner. 

Crandell, a senior at Glacier High School, is the daughter of Brian and Julie Crandell.

Crandell moves on to represent Montana at the national finals in Mobile, Ala., in June 2014.
