COEUR d'ALENE - The 21-year-old Coeur d'Alene man who was arrested in connection with a stabbing on East Sherman last week has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, court documents show.

Jayde A. Brown is being held at the Kootenai County jail on $1 million bond and is awaiting a preliminary hearing on Oct. 18 in front of Judge Penny Friedlander.

Court documents said his alleged victim was 20-year-old Zackary D. Brown. The two aren't related.

Zackary Brown was stabbed once in the chest on Wednesday, Oct. 2, and the knife penetrated his heart. He was in stable condition late last week after surgery.

Zack Brown, who is listed as homeless, was on his way to Port of Hope in Coeur d'Alene the day of the incident.

An investigation report completed by the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and filed in court to support charges in the case said Jayde Brown's girlfriend told police he allegedly stabbed Zack Brown and fled on his bike. Jayde Brown was arrested by police on Thursday.

The girlfriend told police she was with him minutes before and after the incident.

Zack Brown identified both Jayde Brown and his girlfriend in suspect lineups.

Zack Brown was stabbed at or near the Coeur d'Alene Budget Saver Motel and staggered east toward Jimmy's Down the Street Restaurant, where he collapsed in the entryway.

Workers at the restaurant came to his assistance and called emergency medical personnel.
