OTHELLO - An Othello man sustained several serious injuries after he was struck by a car on Main Street on Othello Thursday.

About 6:10 p.m. Thursday, Othello police responded to the corner of East Main Street and North Sixth Avenue for a report of a pedestrian hit by a car. At the corner, officers found Apolinar Garza, 63, had been struck by a vehicle driven by Edwardo Valencia, 26, also from Othello, according to police reports made public Friday.

After speaking with Valencia and witnesses, officers determined Garza was crossing Main Street in the middle of the block and outside the marked crosswalks heading north. Valencia was traveling west in the furthest north lane and reportedly did not see Garza, hitting him with the left side of the front of the car, according to police reports.

Garza reportedly suffered serious injuries and was initially transported to Othello Community Hospital and later to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

Officers are continuing to investigate the incident and preliminary information indicated alcohol was not a factor.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Othello Police Department at 509-488-3314.
