The Flathead boys kept their undefeated streak rolling, tying Missoula Sentinel 2-2 in a Western AA conference soccer match on Tuesday at Kidsports Complex.

The Braves (1-6-2) led for most of the match, beginning with a goal from Haakon Sande in the 10th minute. Flathead took a 2-0 lead just a few minutes later, when Caleb Buxton, who assisted on the first goal, scored one of his own on a pass from Kaleb Frame in the 24th.

“It was a good start from us,” Flathead coach Dan Ferguson said. “We’re building off our win vs. Glacier, turning around our confidence level.”

Adam Mickelson scored in the 34th minute to get a goal back for Sentinel (3-5-2) before halftime. The Spartans scored the equalizer midway through the second half, off the foot of Kasey Leavell.

Flathead regained its composure but was unable to get a go-ahead goal late, settling for a tie.

“Once we found ourselves on level footing again, we were able to play better,” Ferguson said.

“We’re playing better as a whole. If you look at the team from the start of the season, it’s a night and day difference. We’re playing better soccer, but we’re also holding ourselves to higher expectations. There were a lot of kids upset that we came out with a tie.

“There’s a fire in the players. You can build off that.”

Flathead looks to keep its momentum rolling through the weekend, hosting Big Sky on Saturday.
