The Columbia Falls girls cross-country team ran its best race of the year at Thompson Falls last week.
Wildkat Meredith Stolte was eighth with a time of 21.04 — shaving more than a minute off her previous best at the Oct. 3 meet.
“The girls ran their best times of the season,” coach Richard Menicke said.
Samantha Mundel, the Kats’ top runner, was out sick. The team took third overall with 103. Timberlake High School, of Spirit Lake, Idaho, won the girls event.
Wildkat Allie Folks was 18th. The freshman ran the course in 21:56. Other girls times were not available.
The top runner for the boys was Zayne Brunz, who took 15th at 17:43. He was followed by James Ratzlaff, who was 18th at 17:50. Ratzlaff was in the top 10 before he dropped back with a back problem, Menicke said.
The Wildcats came in fifth overall. Whitefish won the meet.
Columbia Falls travels to Whitefish on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
