COEUR d’ALENE — The public will be able to tour McEuen Park, and witness the ongoing makeover firsthand, during an open house on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m.

This is an opportunity for the community to fully understand the magnitude of the project and the impact it will have on the area.

Park designers, architects, city officials, Centennial Trail volunteers, and engineers will be among those on hand to show off the amenities and answer questions. The public is welcome to stroll the site on their own, but certain areas under construction will be closed.

Volunteers will be handing out materials highlighting the improvements and pointing out key features of the amenities under construction at the lakeside park. Entrance to the park will be at the east end, below the Coeur d’Alene Public Library. Visitors can park free at the adjacent City Hall parking lot.

McEuen Park upgrades include sub-level public parking designed to enhance lake views, a new Front Avenue promenade with community gathering areas, a natural amphitheater, a new pavilion, a new grand plaza and waterfront promenade, basketball and tennis courts, scenic paved trails, an interactive splash pad with more than a dozen colorful water features, new public art, a re-designed Veteran’s Memorial, Harbor House, an interactive playground for kids of all ages, and a new dog park.

The official grand opening of McEuen Park is slated for May of 2014.
