Burglar chased out of house empty-handed

Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a West View Drive home after a man chased a burglar out of his home.
The burglar was wearing a stocking cap, a camouflage coat and blue jeans and was carrying a white grocery sack. Shortly after that, a driveway alarm was triggered on Brook Drive, but deputies were not able to locate the burglar.
Deputies defused a tense situation Friday afternoon after receiving a report of a man with a rifle in the area of Two Mile Drive. The man was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
A Military Police officer from Fort Lewis, Wash., contacted the sheriff’s office after becoming aware of a pair of single-tube night-vision goggles being sold on consignment at a U.S. 2 East location.
This particular version of the goggles is not sold by the military, but is destroyed once it is no longer being used. The store was unable to provide any information on the goggles’ owner, because the owner returned and picked the goggles up and the consignment information was torn up.
A shocked Sharon Road woman reported someone tried to enter her home through her child’s bedroom overnight, that she noticed the window open the following morning and later found blood on the window sill. A responding deputy reported the screen appeared to have been pushed out from the inside, that the window was broken from last year and that the blood appeared old.
An ongoing property dispute between a pair of McMannamy Draw residents continued when one called to report someone had cut down his half-acre hay crop. He claims he owns the land in question, while his neighbor claims she has paperwork showing she owns it. Both were advised to seek legal counsel to help resolve the civil dispute.
A dispatcher was treated to a man singing along with music when he unknowingly dialed 911.
A man at a Columbia Falls business on Conn Road called 911 after locking the gates behind a vehicle of someone who came on the property trying to steal canisters. He also blocked the entrance with his own vehicle while awaiting deputies.
A KM Ranch Road man reported his computer was hacked and that he believed his personal information had been taken. The man was advised by Hotmail representatives that the hacking originated in The Philippines.
A trio of Kila dogs on Seely Lane whose curiosity got the better of them got into and ate rat poison on an adjacent property.
A Kalispell Police Department officer chased a runaway boy on East California Street before losing him. Another officer found him heading toward Ninth Avenue East North until he “hunkered down” in the 900 block of East Oregon Street somewhere. An officer finally apprehended the boy after finding him on the roof of a house at the intersection of Ninth Avenue East North and East California Street.
An officer who responded to Golden Eye Court following a report of a possible party or band practice keeping children awake found band members playing — the officer said they “sound good” — but told them they were too loud and to disband for the evening.
An officer responded to Third Avenue East North after receiving a report of a man panhandling too close to the intersection. The officer said the man didn’t seem to be doing anything wrong, but moved along because he “apparently didn’t like being watched.”
A report of people playing music, talking loudly, and possibly smoking marijuana turned out to be a group of people smoking cigarettes with a radio playing low.
A group of troublemakers was asked to leave a business off Woodland Park Drive after trying to start fights with people.
An emergency room nurse called for the nearest officer to respond to remove handcuffs from a person.
An officer who saw a person he thought was a runaway youth did not find who he expected, but did cite a pair of men for having an open container of alcohol.
A man on an all-terrain vehicle was hit by a rock thrown by a man standing on Fifth Avenue West North.
A Columbia Avenue resident reported to the Whitefish Police Department that a burglar had gotten into her unlocked vehicle, taken her wallet, and left behind only the smell of cigarette smoke.
A Cedar Pointe Loop resident called the Columbia Falls Police Department for clarification about leash laws, reporting that a neighbor’s small dogs were running at large and making messes in the yard.
