THEATRE: Thanks for stellar entertainment

To the Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre actors, musicians, set and costume designers, sound and lighting engineers, etc., thank you so much for bringing the highest level of entertainment to this community for so many years.

For many of those years I was a season ticket holder. Not all performances were to my taste, but the majority certainly were. Obviously, it's not possible to please all the people all the time, but the level of professionalism was always outstanding. The performers acted, sang, danced and often received standing ovations. I have always felt so fortunate to have this kind of exceptional quality entertainment available to me, a senior citizen, at a reasonable price, and located so close to home.

So, to Roger Welch, Ellen Travolta, Jack Bannon, Julie Powell, Darcy Wright and all those wonderful folks who gave their very best, please know you are appreciated for your talent, hard work and dedication. God bless you all. I hope any and all problems can be worked out so that you can return to the stage soon.

CANCER: Painting Ramsey Gold in support

In honor of September's Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Ramsey Magnet School of Science "Painted Ramsey Gold" on Thursday, Sept. 26. Staff, students and parents were moved to action by Tracy Burt's Coeur d'Alene Press article entitled "Let's paint the town gold for kids with cancer." School personnel, Landon's classmates and their parents, decorated the school with gold ribbons and signs, and most wore gold on this special day. The outpouring of generosity and support for our 1st grader who is battling leukemia was unbelievable! We donated $2500 to the Landon Burt Donation account at Idaho Independent Bank. A big thank you to the following donors for making our "Paint Ramsey Gold" day such a huge success!

BASKETS: Gifts from People in Green

"The people in green are here!" "Who are these people?" "What are the people in green doing?" Those were some of the comments heard from children on the Winton Elementary School playground as they observed people in green delivering baskets of classroom supplies and lunch from Texas Roadhouse to the teachers. The people in green are members of the Heart of the City congregation. In my mind, they are glowing, sparkling energy forces sent to us from a holy entity - a band of angels.

As the teachers entered the meeting room to receive their baskets, comments of appreciation were heard: "It's so unbelievable," "I think I'm in shock," "Is this for real?" "No, that can't possibly be for me," "I feel like it's Christmas," "A real leather chair!" There were teachers with tears in their eyes.

The people in green were as grateful as the teachers. One person said, "I'm the winner," while another said that seeing the kids who will receive the supplies made her cry. If I were in their shoes, the joy that these people in green observed would have been overwhelming. I hope they realize that the gifts they brought will make a difference every day for the children at Winton. Several teachers told me that the expressions of appreciation from the Heart of the City members towards the teachers for all their hard work, currently and in the past, were the highlight of their day.

From one big collaborative heart, Winton Elementary would like to say thank you to Pastor J.O. and Mr. Craig Brown for the coordination of this event. Thank you also to the Heart of the City congregation for granting the wishes of the teachers and children at our school. We feel very blessed.
