MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake Chiefs soccer continued its roll through the Columbia Basin Big 9 beating the Sunnyside Grizzlies 5-0 Thursday night.

The win is the Chiefs third in a row keeping their league record unblemished at 6-0 and improving their overall record to 7-4.

"Every game we continue to progress," head coach Ric Char said. "If we continue to make progress and push forward we've got the potential. We've got really good scorers."

The Chiefs struck quickly when junior midfielder Elizabeth McGraw found the back of the net in the eighth minute. Junior forward Alysha Overland tallied her nineteenth goal of the year when she headed in the ball off a corner kick in the seventeenth minute. Overland is now four goals away from tying the school record for most goals made in a season with four matches remaining.

"She's driven," Char said. "She's worked all offseason to get where she's at. She's increased her speed and her strength, she's just getting more mature, she's getting smarter."

Char added that Overland's teammates have also contributed to her goal scoring this season.

"She's getting great balls by Caylah Lunning," he said. "She's getting great services from Lizzie McGraw. I think her support system that she has has enabled her to be successful and score those goals."

Moses Lake broke the match open in the closing minutes of the first half. Senior defender Krystal Fick added a goal in the thirty-seventh minute while McGraw added her second goal and Lunning scored off an assist from Overland in stoppage time as Moses Lake's lead swelled to 5-0 heading into intermission.

"With everybody knowing how successful Alysha is getting it puts the attention on her and then it opens up a lot of attention to Lizzie, to Caylah, to other players and Stephanie, her sister, to open up and get those opportunities," Char said.

The Chiefs controlled the clock during the second half not allowing any opportunities for the Grizzly offense and held on to win 5-0. Moses Lake puts its undefeated league record on the line next against the Eastmont Wildcats Oct. 15 in East Wenatchee. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Moses Lake was able to blow out Eastmont at home 8-1 in September, but Char knows not to put any stock into an early season matchup.

"Every single team in the second half of the season has improved," he said. "You can see the scores and how tight the games are."
