COEUR d'ALENE - Sydney Williams and Miranda Miller had nine kills each as the Coeur d'Alene Vikings defeated the Post Falls Trojans 27-25, 25-19, 25-12 in the "Volleyball 4 the Cure" match for breast cancer awareness on Saturday.

Megan Ramseyer had 14 assists for Coeur d'Alene (18-9, 2-3 5A Inland Empire League). Miller had eight digs, Darby Lyon seven. Ali Williams had five aces and Sydney Williams and Morgan Leifer each had two blocks for the Vikings.

"It was an emotional start to the match, as we recognized our athletic secretary's (Judy Mayotte) family," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "But we got settled down and I thought we played real well tonight."

Mayotte's daughter died of cancer earlier this year.

Brenna Meehan had nine kills and four blocks, Amanda Westlake 13 digs and two aces and Lydea Schneider 14 assists for Post Falls (8-22, 0-6 5A Inland Empire League), which hosts Priest River and Lakeland in a tri-match on Thursday at The Arena. Shayna Allert had six blocks and six kills for the Trojans.

"We had a good first set," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "It was pretty competitive in the first game, but we just didn't compete in the final two. Coeur d'Alene ran their middle well and served and passed really well."

Money raised through the Volleyball 4 the Cure event goes to North Idaho Hospice, Kootenai Cancer Center and the local Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Totals for this year weren't immediately available, but organizers said more than $7,000 was raised last year, and more than $25,000 has been raised since Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls have participated in the "Volleyball 4 the Cure" match.

Coeur d'Alene travels to Lake City on Tuesday.
