PLAINS — Heather’s Country Kitchen is about to undergo a major facelift and get some national television attention in the process.

The popular Food Network show, “Restaurant Impossible,” is taking over Heather’s today and Wednesday for the rapid remodeling and improvement project.

Under the direction of Chef Robert Irvine, the staff, volunteers and Food Network crew have two days to remodel the restaurant for $10,000.

The ultimate goal is saving a restaurant from failure.

This is the second western Montana restaurant to receive a “Restaurant Impossible” makeover. Irvine and crew were in Kalispell in September 2012 to remake Rising Sun Bistro.

The owner and staff of Heather’s Country Kitchen are unable to talk about the remodeling until five days after the show airs. The Food Network has a closed set during the show’s filming.

The makeover of the Plains restaurant will be capped by a grand reopening at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The broadcast date has not been determined for the “Restaurant Impossible” episode on Heather’s Country Kitchen.

According to Jen Kreiner, the coordinator of the Sanders County Community Development Corporation, the show will be positive for the community.

“I would say on a tourism-based impact, for sure, that would absolutely bring in awareness to the area,” said Kreiner.

Sanders County Commissioner Carol Brooker also said it might increase tourism.

“Once it hits the national network, people might come to Plains just to check it out,” Brooker said. “I think it’ll just be really, really positive. It’s a really good thing.”

According to Racene Friede, executive director of Glacier County Tourism, “We see this type of publicity as an opportunity to raise awareness on one of the less traveled yet stunning areas of Montana. We wish the featured business great success and look forward to dining there in the near future.”
