SPIRIT LAKE - Todd Clary wants the beat in Spirit Lake to continue under his leadership for four more years.
Clary, 53, is a cable TV system technician seeking a second term as Spirit Lake's mayor.
He said he believes his experience in the position the past four years would be a valuable asset to the city.
"There are a lot of ongoing projects and issues that our citizens deserve to have completed," Clary said. "I want to continue to progress while controlling growth and maintaining our positivity."
He said he brings to the table knowledge of city government, leadership skills, stability, common sense, honesty, a positive attitude and a deep caring for the citizens.
"I have developed relationships with other agencies involved with our community," Clary said.
He served on the City Council for eight years and urban renewal board before becoming mayor, and was previously a non-commissioned officer in the Marine Corps.
Clary, who considers himself "moderately conservative," said he doesn't have a specific agenda or any ideas for major change.
"As always, any opportunity for improvement must meet two criteria," he said. "First, is it good for the citizens? Second, where will the funding come from? I have always tried to keep an open mind for proposals that meet those criteria."
Clary said he believes the city is being run "very smooth and fluently."
"Over the past few years we have developed a solid reputation amongst our peers and facilitating organizations," he said. "We are doing an excellent job of maintaining positive progress and attitude."
Clary said he's particularly proud of the growth of the parks system under his leadership.
"I think the Fireside park project is a huge asset for the community," he said, referring to the historic Fireside Lodge site being converted into a city park.
During his service, the city moved into a new City Hall and remodeled the police department.
The downtown was also revitalized and the 10th Avenue widening project from the north end of town to the south side is wrapping up this fall.
"We have made huge strides in ADA compliance and infrastructure improvements while in a very tough economical environment," he said.
Clary said he believes the police department has gotten more professional and the recreation department has a wider variety of programs.
Clary was raised in Spirit Lake and brought his family back to the town in 1991 to raise his children in a more family-oriented area.
He is a member of the Idaho Hunter Education Association, Idaho Bowhunter Education Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and North American Hunting Club. He formerly served with the Spirit Lake Lion's Club.
Clary has military certification in aviation meteorology. His former work experience includes farming, construction, baking and metal composition.
