Earl Rachels, 86, passed away at his home in Hayden, Idaho, October 11, 2013. He was born January 2, 1927 in Ninety Six, South Carolina to William and Mattie (Henry) Rachels. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and was a member of the American Legion. He moved from Louisville, Kentucky in 1959 to Garden Grove, California and lived there until 1993 before retiring in Post Falls, Idaho. Earl worked for AMF Voit Sporting Goods Company for 40 years. Earl volunteered working for the Food Bank in Idaho and Washington. His hobbies included his love to fish, spending time in his garden growing vegetables and his favorite tomatoes, and collecting coins. Survivors include his spouse, Myrtle Pharease Rachels, his children, Kenneth Earl Rachels, William Dade Rachels, Johnnie Lewis Rachels, Tara Leigh Rachels, Shanene Beth Rachels, his 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Viewing will be from 11:00 A.M. until Noon, Thursday October 17th at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel with Graveside services to follow at 1:00 P.M. at Forest Cemetery.
