The Columbia Falls boys soccer team lost to Polson and Whitefish, last week, but still have hope for a playoff berth.

The boys dropped an Oct. 8 match to the Pirates, 1-0, and then lost to the Bulldogs two days later, 3-0. The Polson loss was particularly painful. Polson hadn’t won a game all season long.

The boys are 2-4-1 in conference play and 4-6-1 overall. They wrapped up the regular season at home Tuesday against Libby in a game played after presstime.

If the Cats can beat Libby, they’d earn a playoff berth, tying Bigfork’s overall record for third. But since they have a better record against Libby, they’d win the tiebreak, as Bigfork has no wins against the Loggers — they tied and lost. Both teams would have a 3-4-1 record if the Cats beat Libby.

The top-three teams in the conference make it to the playoffs. Libby was 4-1-2 in conference heading into the Tuesday game. A Columbia Falls win would send them to Billings to face Billings Central in the playoffs.
