Glacier’s Kade McCutcheon and Bailey Smith ran to comfortable victories at the Glacier cross country invitational on Wednesday at Kidsports Complex, winning the unscored event by huge margins.
McCutcheon won the boys race by 24 seconds, topping a pair of teammates to cross the line in 15 minutes, 52 seconds. Junior varsity runner Brock Sandry had a fantastic race, finishing in second in 16:16, with Glacier teammate Tevyn Stetson in third a second back. Flathead’s Chance Kittle finished fourth in 16:26 to lead the Braves along with teammate Sylas Schutt, who was fifth in 16:30.
Cut Bank’s Logan Meeks was the top finisher from the two out-of-town schools, Cut Bank and Shelby, finishing in 15th in 17:31.
Smith continued her fabulous freshman slate, winning the girls race by 46 seconds. Flathead’s Nicole and Mackenzie Bouma finished in a tight pack in second and third, Nicole crossing in 19:28 and and Mackenzie three seconds later. Glacier’s Mercede Erickson finished in 19:32 in fourth place and Corinne Hamilton finished in fifth in 19:45.
Cut Bank’s Jacelin Augare was the top Class B finisher in 20:59.
The meet served as a final race for each of the two Kalispell schools before the state meet, which will be run on Oct. 26 at the University of Montana golf course in Missoula. The Glacier boys are a favorite for a state title after they won the team title at the course earlier this season in the prestigious Mountain West Classic.
