Viks top Lake City; Lakeside wins NSL

COEUR d'ALENE - The visiting Coeur d'Alene Vikings rallied to win the final two games and tied Lake City for second place in the 5A Inland Empire League volleyball standings with a 25-21, 11-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-11 victory over the Timberwolves on Tuesday night.

Sydney Williams and Miranda Miller had 16 kills each for Coeur d'Alene (19-9, 3-3 5A IEL), which was swept by Lake City last month. Megan Ramseyer had 24 assists, Cameron Cardenas 16 assists, Darby Lyon 11 digs, Missy Huddleston nine digs and three aces, Williams four blocks.

"It was a great crosstown battle," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "Lake City is tough. Splitting with them them this season sets up for an exciting regional tournament."

Madi Farrell had 16 kills, nine blocks and eight digs for Lake City (19-7, 3-3). Natalie Taylor had 12 kills and 11 digs, Haile Watson eight kills and 12 digs, Kasey Widmyer seven kills and eight digs, CC Cates 39 assists and 13 digs.

Depending on those results, a coin flip could be needed to determine the second and third seeds between Coeur d'Alene and Lake City for the 5A Region 1 tournament next week.

Lakeland

SANDPOINT - Mariah Kluver had nine digs and four jump serve aces and Hannah Neumann had nine kills to lead the Bulldogs past the Hawks 25-15, 25-16, 25-9 in a 4A Inland Empire League match at Les Rogers Court.

Taylor Martin had nine kills, Hailey Dunn 20 assists and Anna Alsager two blocks for Sandpoint (19-11, 3-0 4A IEL), which hosts Coeur d'Alene on Thursday.

No details were reported for Lakeland (5-12, 0-4), which travels to a tri-match against Priest River and Post Falls on Thursday at The Arena of Post Falls.

Timberlake

PRIEST RIVER - Courtney Eaton had 28 assists for the Tigers, who lost an Intermountain League match to the Spartans 25-16, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20.

Ayla Jelinek seven digs and three aces for Timberlake (3-22, 0-6 IML), which opens the district tournament next Tuesday at Lakeland High.

"We look at districts as a clean start," Timberlake coach Michelle Garwood said. "I have seen a lot of upsets over the years, so we keep the mindset that when you get to districts, it's anybody's game."

Kellogg (10-9, 4-1 IML) hosts Bonners Ferry (11-15, 2-3) on Thursday night in the final regular season league match. Timberlake will be the fourth seed to districts, starting next Tuesday at Lakeland High.

Karly Douglas had 31 assists for Priest River (12-4, 5-1), which clinched at least a tie for the league title.

Cd'A Charter

ST. MARIES - Freshmen Toni Eells and Kelsey Auer had 14 assists each to lead the Lumberjacks past the Panthers 25-14, 25-21, 25-23 in a Central Idaho League match.

Kari Ghramm had eight kills, Madi McQueen eight digs and Haylee Waddell two blocks and Kerstin Auer six kills for St. Maries (6-15, 3-3 CIL), which faces Grangeville on Tuesday in the opening round of the 2A District 1-2 tournament at Moscow High.

"We still made a lot of serving and hitting errors, but we managed to win it in three," St. Maries coach Missy Asbury said. "But I thought that both of our setters played really well as freshmen and contributed to a win."

Taylor Garn had 17 digs and nine assists, Anna Verhaeghe six kills and two blocks, Nadia Ancker 15 digs and Libby Goodwin two aces for Coeur d'Alene Charter (7-15, 0-6), which hosts Lakeside on Thursday at Holy Family Catholic School.

"The girls are playing really well together," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Krista Brand said. "This is the best we've done against St. Maries in 4 to 5 years."

POST FALLS - Rayla Andrews had seven kills and Breanna Clemons had six aces to lead the Royals past the Jaguars 25-18, 25-7, 25-16 in a Mountain Christian League match at Real Life Ministries.

Sarah Ployhar had 10 assists, Sydney Lawson four blocks and Mara Lund five digs for North Idaho Christian (14-2, 10-2 MCL), which hosts Grace Bible on Thursday at Venture High.
