POST FALLS — Jim Hail says businesses want predictability and stability from local government, and he believes he's the best person to do that in Seat No. 2 on the Post Falls City Council.

"This is something that I will bring to the table," said Hail, the accounts receivable and customer relations manager at Hagadone Directories, Inc. "I want to encourage local government to be more responsive to the needs of local businesses. Local companies provide jobs and services that are integral to helping Post Falls thrive."

The 32-year-old, who has lived in Post Falls for six years and Kootenai County all of his life, is among four candidates seeking Ron Jacobson's seat on the council on Nov. 5.

"I refuse to live in a city that is anything less than great," said Hail of why he's running for council. "I want to keep Post Falls a family friendly community where I can raise children and maintain the qualities that make the city a place people are proud of."

Hail has served on the city's Parks and Recreation Commission for the past six years, and as chairman for the past three.

Other community involvement includes the Promenade Condominium Homeowners Association Board, Eagles, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, TESH Resource Development Committee and Coeur d'Alene's Civil Service Commission.

Hail said he's proud that he had an early start in civic service, serving on local committees when he was 19.

He supports the idea of lighting up the Post Falls Dam and the falls.

"This would bring some great tourism dollars to the city — something that also needs to be addressed in the next few years, as the city continues to grow from a bedroom community to a major focal point in the Inland Northwest," Hail said.

He said the city has been well-run and responds to residents' input, but engaging citizens will be important.

"There were more people at a recent city council meeting speaking about the city's snow berm removal program than there were at the budget discussions," he said.

Hail, who has a bachelor's degree in political science and attended two years of law school, said he prides himself on being humble and open to new ideas.

"I love to lead by example, and also make sure that credit for successes is spread as widely as possible."

Hail previously worked in sales, as an assistant restaurant manager, and as an intern for Butch Otter when Otter was in the U.S. House.

"I have held a variety of jobs that have allowed me to experience different points of view," he said.

A property investor in Post Falls, Hail said he believes he's well-rounded to serve. He watched his father, Jim, co-owner of Hagadone Directories, expand the business.

“I believe that my life experience, professional expertise, abilities and understanding of the issues uniquely position me as the best candidate," he said. “Beyond my experience, I believe I have the temperament and attributes necessary. Even though I'm younger, I've watched and experienced a lot. I really want to give back to the community."
