Post Falls, ID Formerly of Quincy, WAHis family and friends lost a kind and gentle man on October 15, 2013, when Herb Alexander, 82, died peacefully at Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, ID, after complications from cancer. Herb was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Pateros, WA. He was the only child of Walter and Pearl Alexander. Herb graduated from Bridgeport High School and worked at local jobs until he joined the United States Air Force in December 1950. He served his country for four years, including a tour of duty in Korea, and he was awarded several medals for his service. Herb married his high school sweetheart, Norma, on May 14, 1953. The couple, who were married for more than 55 years, traveled during the early part of their marriage while Herb completed his tour of duty with the Air Force and built a career in the hydroelectric industry. He eventually retired from the Grant County Public Utility District (PUD) after becoming the supervisor of powerhouse operations for Priest Rapids and Wanapum dams. During their marriage, the couple lived in Columbus, Ohio; Albany, Georgia; Seattle, Washington; Bridgeport, Washington; and Riverdale, North Dakota; before making their home in Quincy, Washington, in 1966. In 2011, to be closer to his family, and five years after his wife’s death from Alzheimer’s disease, Herb moved to Garden Plaza, an independent senior living community in Post Falls, ID, where he made many new friends. Herb was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His life was filled with many interests beyond his career, including coaching his son’s Little League teams and proudly following his grandson’s and granddaughter’s progress as they pursued their sports interests. Herb was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Quincy and regularly attended church services at Garden Plaza. Herb is survived by daughters Debbie Bridges and her husband Cory Bridges; Karen Alexander and her husband Joe Hansen; and son Raymond Alexander. Herb also has two grandchildren, Kelli Bridges and Trent Bridges, and he recently added Trent’s wife, Kelly Bridges, to his family. Herb was preceded in death by his wife, Norma (Davidson) Alexander and by his parents, Walter and Pearl Alexander. A funeral service will be held graveside at the Bridgeport Cemetery in Bridgeport, Washington, on October 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. Additionally, a Celebration of Life will be held on Oct. 21, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. at Garden Plaza, 545 N.
