POLSON — Sutton Kanta’s goal in the 66th minute of Polson’s contest with Columbia Falls last Tuesday was more than just his first, it was the team’s ticket into the win column.
On a breakaway with the ball, Kanta smashed the ball off the left goalpost, but teammate Jonah Kasnitz corralled the rebound and found Kanta, whose second shot was true. 1-0 Polson.
“Our defense put together a great game,” coach Jess Kittle said of the Pirates’ first win. Trevor Basler recorded his first-ever shutout, aided by Dylan Moll and Rhett Burland’s strong defensive play.
The Pirates weren’t as lucky Saturday with Libby, however, falling 3-0 to end their season at a 1-11, 1-7 NW A Conference mark.
“We had higher expectations for this game,” Kittle said. “We gave ourselves good opportunities but we couldn’t find the back of the net.”
The season’s end marks the end of Moll’s high school career, but Polson looks forward to next year with a strong junior class returning to the pitch.
