MOSES LAKE - A 37-year-old Kennewick man died at the scene after a tractor-trailer collided with another tractor-trailer southeast of Moses Lake in the afternoon of Oct. 8.

According to Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones, Robert Valdez, 37, was driving a 1993 Peterbilt loaded with potatoes westbound on Road 2 Southeast while Dalgit Singh, 47 of Fresno, California, was driving a 2012 Freightliner southbound on Road O Southeast.

Singh failed to stop at the stop sign at Road 2 Southeast, Jones said, and Valdez's truck T-boned the trailer behind the Freightliner. The impact tore the cab off the Peterbilt. Valdez was ejected and died at the scene.

The trailer was ripped from the Freightliner and went off the southwest corner of the intersection. The Peterbilt spun out of control and rolled over, spilling the load of potatoes.

Singh's trailer and Valdez's Peterbilt were a total loss, Jones said. Singh's Freightliner tractor was not damaged.

Alcohol and drugs are not a factor in the collision, Jones said. The collision is still under investigation by the Grant County Motor Traffic Unit.

Singh will be mailed a ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign, Jones said.
