LEWISTON - Post Falls quarterback Dalton Thompson ran the ball in from 10 yards out for the game-winning touchdown in a 48-42 victory over Lewiston in 5A Inland Empire League action Friday night at Bengal Field.

Thompson stepped in for injured starting quarterback Joey Pfennigs, who was out due to a concussion for the Trojans (5-4, 1-1 5A IEL), who outscored the Bengals 34-14 after halftime. Thompson had a fantastic night, throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for two more scores.

"Dalton was thrown into the fire and stepped up and did a fantastic job," Trojans coach Jeff Hinz said. "We came down here and we were down 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. I'm proud of these kids for their commitment and their work ethic. They never gave up and they won."

In the first overtime, Post Falls scored on a 10-yard pass from Thompson to Junior McKeown.

Gunner Sciortino blocked a field-goal attempt in the second overtime for Post Falls.

"It was a big momentum swing," Hinz said of the blocked field goal.

Defensive back Jay Koski had a key interception that led to a touchdown in the second half. Hinz said McKeown had a good game on offense and defense.

Post Falls wraps up its regular season with a game at Coeur d'Alene and must win in order to have a chance to advance to the state playoffs.

"Patrick Agueros stepped in for Seth McLeod (who was also injured) and did a good job rushing," Hinz said. "We've got to beat Coeur d'Alene, that's how it'll work," Hinz said.
