LAJUNTA, Colo. - North Idaho College won 2-1 in overtime over Northwest College of Powell, Wyo., in the Region 9 quarterfinals.

In the 96th minute in overtime, the Cardinals' Rodger Bucknor drilled a corner kick. Northwest College couldn't clear it and Adam Talley put it away for the game-winning goal.

"It was a big goal for us," Thompson said. "It was the third time we've played those guys this year and all three were hotly contested matches. The first goal shows the personality of the team."

The Cardinals (11-5-2) scored its first goal on a free kick by Christian Botuli, a shot in the upper left-hand corner.

COEUR d'ALENE - North Idaho College lost its season opener at Christianson Gymnasium to the University of Great Falls.

The match came down to the heavyweight match. David Lopez won a decision, 8-5, with a takedown in the last 20 seconds of the match over the Cardinals' Taylor Komoely.

"That one stings a little bit," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "We had some guys do some things right and guys do some things wrong. That's what you usually see in the first match of the season."

North Idaho College has a match at noon today at home against Montana State Northern.
