ST. MARIES - Most years Clark Fork would have punched its ticket to state after winning the 1A Division II volleyball tournament, but this year powers that be down south decided to add an extra hurdle for the automatic berth from the North.

Clark Fork's season came to a tough end at a state 1A Division II play-in match at St. Maries High, as the Wampus Cats (10-7) fell 16-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-18 to Nezperce.

Senior Lyndsie Kiebert tallied 11 kills and 20 digs, Leslie Kiebert added 20 digs, Annie Wurm 21 assists and Alicia Heigis nine kills and six blocks in defeat. It was a tough defeat, as the Cats missed several chances to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the second set.

"We had that game twice and couldn't put it away," said Wampus Cats head coach Cindy Derr. "We'd get a good pass, a good set, then roll it up the back of the wall."

"I'm proud we won the district tournament," Derr added, "but you had to play that one extra game to get to state, and it's kind of a crap shoot."
