Parker Volkswagen opens Friday
Nils Rosdahl | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 11 years, 2 months AGO
The third Parker automotive dealership, this one Parker Volkswagen, will open Friday at 811 N. Greensferry Road in the northeast corner of the Post Falls Autoplex. The complex formerly was Parker Subaru, which this summer moved to Highway 95, almost across the highway from Parker Toyota.
With about 25 employees, Parker VW honchos are Sales Manager Jason Litterell and Service Manager Chelsea White. Owners are Mike White and Jim Parker. With VW sales relatively new to the market, the service department will serve all European makes.
Sales hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 to 5 Sundays. Service hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Phone 773-4939 (765-8228 before Friday).
Culinary Stone opens Friday
Nearly anything "kitchen" will be available at The Culinary Stone when it opens Friday at 2129 Main St. in Riverstone.
The 5,500-square-foot store (the center of what originally was to be a Barnes & Noble outlet) will offer gourmet foods, boutique cheeses, Italian meats, kitchen supplies, wine by the bottle and glass and smoked turkeys and meats. It has a demonstration kitchen for cooking classes. The decor and some items come from historical sites, and some items are from local vendors.
"Everything has a story to tell," said Sandra Gunn, who owns the store with Sandy Volker. Gunn also owns Coeur d'Alene Olive Oil downtown. They have five employees.
Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Phone 277-4116. Check www.culinarystone.com.
Pastry & More also in Riverstone
The second outlet for Pastry & More will open Friday at 2133 Main St. in Riverstone. Owned by Andy Renfrew and sister-in-law Becky Renfrew (with four employees at Riverstone), the original Pastry & More is at 411 W. Haycraft (at Highway 95).
With everything baked daily, items will include Danish pastries, specialty cupcakes, pies and cakes by the slice, sandwiches, soups, salads, espressos and more. Check www.pastryandmore.com.
Hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Now for the Tidbits
- Details soon on the Enaville Resort (Snakepit) and the new Huckleberry Thicket in Post Falls.
- The St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Osburn is at 415 W. Mullan off Exit 57 of I-90. It also will have an office to provide St. Vinnie social services. The non-profit programs also plans for a store in Sandpoint for early 2014. Check www.stvincentdepaulcda.org.
- Anyone know what's happening with the Yellow House Cafe in Hayden?
- Make sure your kids/grandkids know how to read an analog (face) clock as they mostly see digital numbers.
- We hear rumors of a hotel planned for Silverwood.
- Only use courtesy titles (Mr., Mrs. Miss and Ms.) in a direct quote or when a woman specifically requests it. The second reference would be the last name only unless to differentiate between two people with the same last name; then include the first name rather than a courtesy title).
- A label instruction on a blanket from Taiwan: "Not to be used as protection from a tornado."
- I was at a journalism conference in New Orleans this week. A cool one-day "side trip" is to rent a car and go across Lake Pontchartrain through the narrow feet of Mississippi (see Biloxi) and Alabama (see Mobile) to Pensacola, Fla. (very historical with white beaches and turquoise water).
