Truth PAC did contact candidates
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 1 month AGO
After telling The Press by email Monday that the "Truth North Idaho PAC has not contacted any candidates, neither directly, nor through the auspices of a pen name,” Jeremy Morris, the person behind Truth North Idaho, issued a press release this afternoon which indicates otherwise.
Morris points out, in the press release, that copies of emails his group elicited from Coeur d'Alene city election candidates are now posted on the Truth North Idaho website. The candidates' responses were generated by email inquiries from senders who claim to be "progressives."
Below is a copy of an inquiry email sent to mayoral candidate Steve Widmyer by “Vince,” along with a copy of an email sent by a friend of “Vince’s" to council candidate Kiki Miller. A call placed yesterday to the number on the email to Widmyer was answered by Morris.
Responses to the following emails were posted earlier today on www.truthnorthidaho.com

My question was about whether you would be willing to look into whether it is appropriate to have prayer---particularly a prayer administered from one religious Christian sect--at a public meeting. I would be happy to talk to you. But just a quick response from you acknowledging my concern and your willingness to look into it is all that I think is needed. You would not want me to sit this one out. I have many, many progressive friends in this community---and we vote!

Here’s a copy of a message council candidate Kiki Miller received through her campaign website, www.kikimiller.com. It was sent by “Vince’s friend,” “Samantha Tunic.”

Comments : Hi Kiki,
I\'m Sam. My family moved here three years ago. First, let me say that although I\'m new to Idaho---I care deeply for my new home in Coeur d\'Alene. That\'s why I was so excited to see you running for office. It\'s important that we encourage each other to stand up for the values we believe in and I\'m glad you\'re running. I\'m not in the district to vote for you, but my friends are and they are registered. I know that the outcome of this election will determine the kind of city that we leave for our children.
My friend Vince said to email you. We\'ve done some community project work together at NIC. Anyway, we were talking about an important issue to me. Women\'s reproductive rights. Vince just told me that under the current system, city employees have family planning benefits. I was not aware until I spoke to him that insurance policies for city employees provide for emergency contraceptives and services that promote keeping choices between a woman and her doctor available. I wanted to know if you would keep these important options available to women in our community?
I look forward to hearing back from you and I wish you the best success.
Best Wishes,
Samantha Tunic
