COEUR d'ALENE - Due to weather conditions, equipment malfunctions, and unforeseen circumstances, Coeur d'Alene city street crews are unable to provide a precise schedule of where leaf pickup will take place.

But leaf pickup will begin Nov. 12, and the street department expects completion before Dec. 1.

Leaves will be picked up only once. To find out where the street department will be working next, residents can call the street maintenance information line: 769-2233.

The city has posted a list of "Dos and Don'ts" on its website.

* Do have your leaves out right away.

* Do move cars off the street, if at all possible, during leaf pickup.

* Do keep the leaves about 1 foot away from the curb line to allow for water flow.

* Do be alert for leaf pickup equipment traveling through your neighborhood.

* Do keep a safe distance away from leaf pickup heavy equipment.

* Do recognize that the city has a tough job to do in a very short window between when the leaves fall and when the snow flies.

* Do understand city and private trucks are exempt from covering loads during the leaf pickup period. Sweepers will follow city trucks to collect remaining/excess leaves.

* Don't place bagged leaves in the street.

* Don't mix branches, debris, or other trash in with leaves.

* Don't miss the deadline ... the city only has time for one pass.
