GRACE SARAH TYSON, 90

May 31, 1923 – October 26, 2013

Grace Sarah Tyson passed away peacefully on October 26, 2013 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at the age of 90, following a short illness. She was born on May 31, 1923 in Dutton, Montana to Robert and Lydia (Hermerding) Hesselgesser. A resident of Coeur d’Alene for over sixty years, Grace grew up on a family homestead near Clinton, Montana. Like others of her generation,

she learned resilience, self-sufficiency and thrift during the difficult years of the Depression and WWII.

Grace was a versatile, social woman with many interests, including photography, poetry, reading, and music. Among her many accomplishments, perhaps her best known was her sewing, which won her many awards from the time she was a young girl. As a young teenager she was selected to participate in the 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. She continued to enter sewing competitions in local and Spokane fairs throughout her life and won several prizes for her design and technique. Grace became a proficient cook in recent years, generously sharing her lemon meringue pies with appreciative friends and family members.

Later in life Grace was enriched by and took great pleasure in her travels, including cruises and visits to her grandparents’ homeland in Germany, her son in Japan and her daughter in Australia. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Tyson; her son, Kenneth Allen Marcure, three sisters, Dorothy Harder, Ruth Bennett and Virginia Hackman; and three brothers, Robert and Don Hesselgesser, and Raymond Wolfe.

Grace is survived by a daughter, Judith Lydia Marcure; two step-sons, Dennis Enyeart and Robert Tyson; two sisters, Margaret Edington, and Lou Shanafelt; eight nieces and six nephews. Family and friends agree that with her irrepressible zest and style, Grace lived fully her belief that ours is a wonderful life. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 2 at Yates Funeral Home, 373 East Hayden Avenue, Hayden, ID. Memorial contributions are gratefully acknowledged by Grace’s family and may be made to The Women’s Center in Coeur d’Alene or to the ALS Association honoring her son, Kenneth Marcure.
