RUBIN: Friend of the taxpayer

For this election, it’s time to fish or cut bait. Barry Rubin has the intellect and desire to change the direction of Post Falls government.

The election is about property taxes and growth. We in Post Falls have a 23.5 percent higher tax levy than Coeur d’Alene for the same services.

Our urban renewal agency is intending to build a 15+ MILLION dollar freeway overpass without any real prospects for significant long term job growth resulting from this investment. Another urban renewal district is marking time due to bankruptcy and growing an excellent crop of noxious weeds.

Post Falls approved the development of residential housing on the Prairie which does not generate enough tax revenue to pay for the services the city must provide these developments. Winners: Developers. Losers: The taxpayer.

Both mayoral candidates served on the council which endorsed the above actions. They are both good people but can either change direction?

We need a mayor and council that recognize the burden inflicted on taxpayers. Barry Rubin understands this. He will ask the hard questions and find responsible solutions, steering Post Falls from its dependence on residential subdivisions to greater commercial and industrial growth while eliminating non-essential spending. I am voting for Barry.
