Golf: Lindholm, Avery lead early at Labor Day tourney

A pair of Kalispell golfers defending their titles are in the lead at the 76th annual Labor Day golf tournament at Buffalo Hill Golf Club. More than 200 golfers are in attendance at the tournament.
Buffalo Hill club champion and 2013 Montana Mid-Amateur champion Logan Lindholm is leading the men’s tournament, shooting a 5-under-par 61 in the opening round. Lindholm won the Labor Day tournament last year. He is leading Jeff Bishop of Vancouver, Wash., by two strokes.
Kalispell’s Larry Iverson III is tied for third with Whitefish’s Mark Mance and Kyle Mossfeldt, each shooting a 1-under 65 on Saturday.
Glacier sophomore Teigan Avery of Kalispell is leading the women’s tournament by two strokes, shooting an 81 in the opening round. She is also defending after a Labor Day victory in 2012. Vancouver, British Columbia’s Sarah Moodie is in second place, while Kalispell’s Wendy Madison, Polson’s Vicki Lucas and Kali Gordon of Okotoks, Alberta are tied for third at 84.
The three-day tournament concludes on Monday.
