MOSES LAKE — Bikers gathered school supplies, raised money for additional supplies and got a 100-mile ride out of it Saturday. The ride was sponsored by the Unchained Brotherhood.

About 30 riders participated, from the Unchained Brotherhood, other groups and individuals just along for the ride.

"For fun and a good cause," Chris Brokke, the club secretary, said. Riders hit the road in Moses Lake, rode north to Coulee City, and east to Almira before heading south, back to Moses Lake.

Riders paid a $10 entry fee or donated school supplies, which will in turn be donated to schools in Grant County, club member Dave Mullenix said. This was the first school supply ride, "kind of a trial run," Mullenix said.

The club does a toy drive at Christmas time and gets good response, Mullenix said, and they want to do more community service around the county.

"We're all in recovery," Pat Massey, a club member, said.

Unchained Brotherhood members have struggled with substance addictions, and in the process they've taken from family members and their communities, Massey said. The club is a chance to make up for some of that.

"We've done a lot of taking in our lives. New we're giving back," Mullenix said.

The Moses Lake chapter has been around for about 10 years, Massey said. It's one of four in Washington.

Chapter members are looking for other ways to get involved in the community, Massey said.
