Police: Hydros didn't fire up bad behavior

COEUR d'ALENE - Believe it or not, the 2013 Coeur d'Alene Diamond Cup event appears to have taken a bite out of crime.
"I was just looking at the bookings, and there weren't as many bookings this weekend as we would ordinarily have on a weekend," Kootenai County Sheriff Ben Wolfinger said Tuesday.
In fact, other than one arrest for boating under the influence, and one vehicle that was towed for blocking traffic, parking tickets made up the worst Diamond Cup offenses over the holiday weekend.
"Other than that, we had very few calls for service related to the hydroplane races," said Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Christie Wood.
On Sunday, Wood said, there was some heavy traffic as the crowds dispersed on the east end of town, but even that cleared up quickly.
"Compared to other events such as the Fourth of July, it really was minimal," she said.
Wolfinger said his agency worked closely with Coeur d'Alene police over the weekend, and they pretty much had a cop at every corner.
"That was actually a very good event," he said. "It was mostly families going down there and having a good time, so things went smoothly."
