QUINCY - A $10,000 donation from a local charitable trust will allow the physical therapy clinic operated by Quincy Valley Medical Center to upgrade services.

The money will buy a new ultrasound machine, along with a wall-mounted pulley system and a step machine, Michele Wurl, the hospital's director of marketing and public relations, said. The money was donated to the QVMC Foundation by the W.E. and Millie Jones Charitable Trust.

The ultrasound machine will be used at the therapy clinic only, Wurl said. The hospital foundation is raising money for an ultrasound machine, but that's a different machine destined for use at the hospital, she said.

The new pulley system will help patients working on shoulder rehabilitation and strengthening the upper body, Wurl said. The step machine is "ideal for anyone recovering from a total knee or hip replacement, or anyone who can't make the full revolution on a stationary bicycle," she said.

The new equipment "has been on our wish list for many years," Amy York, the clinic's physical therapist, said.

The new equipment will enhance existing services, Wurl said. "Think of it as adding a new item to a gym. The new equipment will improve the rehabilitative process for our patients."

The Jones Charitable Trust "has been a generous long-term supporter of the Foundation. We are grateful to them for helping to improve the care we are able to provide to our community," Wurl said.
