POLSON — The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is enlisting the help of the public in their bid to gather information about a knife that may be connected to the fatal stabbing of 26-year-old John Pierre in March. The man who allegedly committed the stabbing is in custody and awaiting trial, but undersheriff Dan Yonkin indicated that new information may be emerging in the case.

“Recently we’ve seen information to suggest that there may have been a separate weapon involved,” said Yonkin.

Yonkin believes the weapon in question is a knife with tape wrapped around the handle. He says it may have been discarded in the 2nd St. E. area of Polson on the night of the murder.

Anyone who may have seen or found a knife in Polson matching that description on March 16 or later is asked to come forward and provide information to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department to aid in their investigation. They are asked to call Rick Lenz at 883-7324 or LCSO dispatch at 883-7301.

“Even if they threw it away, we’d still like to talk to them. They’re not in trouble,” Yonkin said.
