MOSES LAKE - Violinist Yang Liu and pianist Olivia Liu will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wallenstein Theater at Big Bend Community College, 7662 Chanute St. It's the first concert of the season for the Central Basin Community Concert Association.

The husband-and-wife duo mix the classical repertoire and Chinese compositions to highlight classical Chinese civilization and folklore. Both are graduates of the University of Cincinnati.

Both won a number of compositions in China; Yang Liu is a winner of the Tchaikovsky Competition, held in Moscow. They have toured internationally and appeared at the Kennedy Performing Arts Center in Washington, D.C., among other venues. Both are professors, with Yang Liu holding a position at the Roosevelt University of the Performing Arts and Olivia Liu at Vander Cook College.

It's the first concert of the year for the community concert association, entering its 59th season. The association is a subscription series, where participants buy a season ticket and can allow other people to use the ticket when they don't attend the concert.

The three remaining concerts include mezzo-soprano Laurie Rubin, who will appear on stage Nov. 8; sisters Greta, Willow and Solana Gothard, Celtic musicians and dancers who will appear Feb. 13, and Jesse Lynch's Jazz 101, featuring classic jazz, on May 1.

Season tickets are $50, Mary Anderson, concert association member, said. Many members make their seats available to the public if they can't attend the concert, and Anderson said that was how she learned about the association and the sponsored concerts. "We're bringing music to our community," she said.

Season tickets are still available and can be purchased from association members.
