Dog shot in Moses Lake neighborhood

MOSES LAKE - A Moses Lake family is looking for help after their dog was shot Monday morning on Knolls Vista Drive in Moses Lake.
Samantra Dickerson said she let her 2-year-old fawn chihuahua, named "Baby Boy," outside through the back door of her home on Knolls Vista Drive Monday morning. When the dog returned minutes later, she knew something was wrong as it began vomiting blood.
When Dickerson's mother, Mavis Barnett, called for the dog, he wouldn't move. She went to pick him up and her hands became covered in blood.
They were able to take to dog to Animal World Veterinary Clinic, but without the $100 for X-rays, and at least $1,100 for surgery, nothing can be done.
Barnett was unable to afford payments at her Moses Lake home and pulled the remaining $100 out of her bank account just to have the dog seen by the vet and an I.V. put in. She is a local minister who is currently living in Pasco and said she was given the dog just after he was born.
Barnett sat in her car in front of the veterinary clinic, crying and upset about the situation.
Dickerson said the dog may have ran into a neighbor's yard but they didn't know who shot him, as nobody was outside following the incident. She told police she did notice a door open to a nearby home.
Moses Lake Police Capt. Dave Sands said initial information showed the dog may have been shot by a pellet gun but the veterinarian told Dickerson a pellet gun would not have caused the wound. Sands said there are no suspects at this time.
Barnett asks anyone who can help, to call her at 509-431-1670.
