POLSON — A 17-year-old Arlee boy who pleaded guilty to stabbing his stepfather to death was sentenced last Thursday to 80 years in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

District Court Judge Kim Christopher sentenced Nathan Butler according to the plea agreement accepted by since-retired Judge C.B. McNeil.  

Butler pleaded guilty to stabbing his mother, Dacia Vollin, in the family home last November. When his stepfather, John Fisher, came to help, Butler stabbed him to death.

Butler received an 80-year sentence for deliberate homicide in the death of 51-year-old Fisher and a second 80-year sentence for the attempted deliberate homicide of Vollin.

Butler received another 10 years for assault with a weapon for stabbing another man in the chest.

All three sentences are to run concurrently. He will begin serving his sentence in a juvenile facility.

Butler will be eligible for parole in 20 years, and if granted he will be required to register as a violent offender.

Court documents stated the court recommends the parole board ensure the family of the victims be seriously involved and supportive before approving any release of Butler into the community.
